A new year is a time for new beginnings and new goals. If you’re wanting to make 2018 your most productive and healthiest year yet, then I’ve got you covered. Living a happy and healthy lifestyle is extremely important to me.
Walk More Often.
In the fast-paced world that we live in today, many people don’t stop to think about the importance of walking. Getting up and moving around throughout your day is extremely important. “No matter how much you exercise, sitting for excessively long periods of time is a risk factor for early death…” (Source: CNN) Three ‘walking’ habits I’m trying to develop in the new year are, getting up and moving around every 30min-1hr, walking 8 flights of stairs 2x a day, and going for a walk after lunch or dinner.
Take 10 Minutes To Breathe.
Taking just 10 minutes to stop and focus on your breath can make a huge difference in your day. Even a short meditation session can lead to many benefits. One of the main benefits I’ve noticed, if I meditate before bed, is that I fall asleep quickly, don’t wake during the night, and feel ready for the day when I wake up in the morning. I personally enjoy using an app like Headspace to guide me through meditation.
Drink More Water.
Drinking water is often a difficult task for some people, but simply reminding yourself to drink water can make a big difference. If you can form the habit of drinking more water, you’ll start to see a change in the way your body operates. The countless benefits of drinking 3L of water a day greatly outweigh the negatives.

Reflect and Journal.
Take a few minutes out of your day to reflect on what happened. What went bad, what went good, etc. While you’re reflecting, also take a few minutes to journal. Journaling can have a big impact on your life, the way you think, and what you achieve. In fact, journaling could change your life. Daily journaling is a habit that I’m working to develop this year.

Set, Track, and Achieve Goals.
This year, make it habit to actually set, track, and achieve your goals. Often times we’ll set our goals, but then we’ll forget to track them which leads to us never achieving them. I love to monitor my goals in my Erin Condren Deluxe Monthly Planner. It has helped me to stay on track and to actually achieve the goals that I’ve been working towards! Be Aware of What You Eat.
So many of us eat what our taste buds ‘enjoy’ instead of listening to what our bodies actually need. When you’re hungry your body is trying to give you a sign that it needs nutrients. Making conscious and deliberate food choices can help you understand what your body needs. I love to track the nutrients I get by recording my daily food in cronometer.
Building these small habits will make a world of a difference when it comes to your health. I find that goals are more like challenges, and then my challenges turn into habits. When you set your new years resolutions this year, consider what habits you want to form and what you want your life to look like. This will help you to build quality attainable goals. What other healthy habits are you considering this year?
