Take a peek inside my closet today and discover what I have pulled out for my Fall 2020 Capsule Wardrobe.
A few notes about how I approach my capsule wardrobe before we jump into it. One, I am by no means a minimalist or have the sustainability aspect down pat. But, I’m trying my best and that’s what counts. And two, I try to make my closet as practical as possible – especially now that I’m working from home indefinitely.

Sustainability
One of the many reasons that I like having a capsule wardrobe is that it helps me to live more sustainably.
Because I’m entirely shopping from my closet for this season’s capsule wardrobe, a lot of the items I have are no longer available to purchase. So in the case where I cannot find the exact item, I’ve gone and found a VERY similar piece for you.
Practicality
As much as I love to *try* to plan for the what-if moments, when it comes to my capsule wardrobe I always have to give myself a reality check.
When I think of September – November 2020, 99% of my time is currently spent indoors with my husband. So when I consider what needs to be included in my capsule wardrobe, I won’t be adding 3 party dresses and fancy heels. Instead, I’ll have a variety of loungewear to pick from.
Now that we’ve covered those two items, let’s jump into what I’ve picked out for my Fall 2020 capsule wardrobe!

Capsule Wardrobe Fall 2020 Color Palette
For my base color, I decided to go with black, mostly because that’s the color of the majority of my clothes. I do love a dark navy blue, but black just goes with everything better. For my coordinating color, I stuck with white and decided to forgo grey this season. Denim is also usually a year-round pick for me so it was a must-have.
When I look at my two accent colors I have a little chuckle to myself because these are almost the exact same colors I had picked for my summer capsule as well! I’m not sure if it’s because they were my University colors or if I gravitate towards them for some other reason. But for my autumn capsule wardrobe, I went with a Burnt Red and Mustard shade.

Autumn Capsule Wardrobe Bottoms
The bottoms that I include in my capsule wardrobe usually only change a ton in the spring and summer to accommodate the hotter weather. Otherwise, I typically have a variety of jeans and leggings to pick from!
- Black Skinny Jeans
- High-Rise Dark-Rinse Skinny Jeans
- Mid-Rinse Cropped Skinny Jeans
- High-Rise Black Leggings
- Black Floral Midi Skirt
Now, I want to be 100% transparent and although I listed 3 pairs of jeans and a skirt, chances are I’ll be wearing my leggings, a pair of jogger pants, or my PJ bottoms more often than not.

Fall 2020 Tops, Tees, and Sweaters
I am a lover of a solid basic tee, so you’ll find that the majority of my tops are just that! And to coincide with my basic tees, I love to layer them with a cozy cardigan. I also popped in a casual flannel and a dressier top.
- Black Crew Neck S/S Tee
- White V-Neck S/S Tee
- Burnt Red Pocket Tee
- White & Black Striped L/S Shirt
- Black Crew Neck L/S Tee
- White Scoop Neck Tee
- Mustard Sweater
- Black Cardigan
- White Flannel
- Black Dress Shirt
You’ll also probably find me sporting my favorite workout shirts and PJ tops on the days that I don’t feel like getting 100% dressed. Oh the joys of working from home!

Capsule Wardrobe Jackets for Fall 2020
I love to include my denim jacket throughout my spring, summer, and fall Capsule wardrobes. Then, my black vest and green utility jacket are year-after-year staples for the autumn season. These three are all exact matches to what I have in my closet!
Depending on where you live, you might need to be flexible with the outerwear that you include in your capsule wardrobe. Chances are I’m going to start grabbing for my peacoat starting mid-November.

Shoes For My Capsule Wardrobe
If I’m headed out of the house, 9 times out of 10 I’ll be wearing my black sneakers or running shoes. But, I thought I’d throw in a nice pair of mules on the off chance that I want to feel dressy.
I kept this category as realistic as possible, I’m pretty laid back in the shoe department. Although, one thing I did leave out that I’ll be wearing the majority of the time are my comfy moccasin slippers.

Autumn 2020 Accessories
Something I’ve added to my accessories this season that isn’t typical are face masks. Although they might not be the most glamorous, I tried my best to find two basic ones that’ll match all of my outfits if I venture out of the house. Paired with my staple black handbag or baseball cap and gold hooped earrings and we’re set!
I’m not too big on accessories, but if I ever do a hairstyle that includes a scrunchie or scarf, I’ll always make sure that it matches with my current wardrobe color palette.
Capsule Wardrobe Outfit Combinations
The thing that I love about having so many basic pieces in my closet is that you can mix and match them with everything! Plus, if I ever start to feel uninspired by my options, I can always throw in a different accessory or jewlery piece to help liven things up again.
Below are just a few outfit combinations that I’ve put together to help show you how easily interchangeable this capsule wardrobe is!
