Organize the night before.

By organizing the night before you won’t be panicked the next morning that you forgot your homework or that important presentation. The two things that I would highly suggest organizing the night before are one, your clothes and two, your bag. I often find myself standing in front of my closet thinking that I have nothing to wear. Doing this wastes my precious morning time and leads to being rushed. Pick and lay out your clothes the night before, then when you wake up you won’t even have to think about it! The same goes for my bag. Having everything packed up and ready to go the night before means that I won’t be running around the apartment in the morning looking for my laptop charger or my planner.

Wake up at a decent time.

Now I’m not saying you have to wake up at the crack of dawn… although watching the sunrise is quite peaceful. What I’m trying to say is that you don’t want to be rushed in the morning. Waking up late and running around like a crazy person is not going to make you happy or calm. If you want to start your day off happier and better than usual then you need to make sure you have ample time get ready. Also, make sure your getting enough sleep. The recommended amount of sleep for an adult is 7-9 hours (National Sleep Foundation). Lack of sleep immediately leads to a grumpy morning.

Don’t have any annoying alarm.

Whether you use your phone or an alarm clock an annoying buzzing or any blaring sound is not welcome in the wee hours of the morning. Instead, opt for your favorite song or maybe something a bit more tranquil. Also, if you have trouble getting out of bed (me included) don’t hit the snooze button! Just let the music play and it will slowly wake you up, making you want to get out of bed. To help with this, you could set your phone out of arms reach.

Listen to your favorite music.

Whilst your getting ready for the day listen to your favorite music. Make a playlist of your all time favorite songs that make you happy! Listening to music whilst getting ready can also help you keep track of time. If you listen to the same playlist every morning you’ll know if your running late or not. You’ll know that by the fifth song on the playlist you should have finished abc and have moved onto xyz.

Create a Relaxing Atmosphere.

Being rushed in the morning often leads to higher stress and anxiety levels. Help reduce these stress and anxiety levels by creating a relaxing atmosphere. I love to light candles, I find that they are very soothing. Opening the curtains & blinds is also something that I enjoy doing as soon as I get up. The sunlight makes your space brighter and creates the perfect ambiance for a happier morning.

Have some me time.

Waking up at a decent time also means making sure you have time for yourself. When you wake up you shouldn’t have to do all the boring mundane things and then go straight out the door. Set aside some time for yourself. Maybe read a book for a few minutes or enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the sun rise (see it does sound nice). ? Maybe meditate!
