Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation Review

Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation Review | hayle santella | www.haylesantella.com

If you’ve been following my blog since the beginning then you’ll know I originally started out by publishing reviews of different makeup products and my favorite outfits. All the college tips started a bit later after I’d been blogging for a year. Needless to say, today’s post is going to be a bit of a throwback!

I recently ran out of my favorite NARS foundation and I was keen on trying something new. I had heard amazing things about the Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation so it was top on my list. I stopped by my local Sephora to find the perfect shade and purchase a bottle. After testing out a few different shades, I decided to go with Medium 58 Neutral.

The Bottle.

The bottle itself looks much larger than the NARS foundation bottles, but after closer review, they actually contain the same amount of product. I was happy to find that the KVD foundation was much cheaper — better for my budget! The price for one 30mL bottle is $35.

I love the pump mechanism of the Kat Von D foundation bottles, it’s easy to get the foundation out without creating a mess. And the best part is because of the design, you’ll be able to get the majority of the product out when you reach the end!

I tried out this foundation for about 2 weeks before I decided I needed to return it. Now don’t get me wrong, this might be the PERFECT foundation for other people, but it just wasn’t what I was looking for.

Consistency.

The formula does provide full-coverage as it’s advertised, but the consistency of the Lock-It Foundation is actually quite thick and I found it hard to blend on my skin. I almost felt like there were patchy bits sometimes. This was quite a change compared to the NARS Sheer Glow foundation that I was used to.

Along with it being thick, I felt like my skin looked cakey and just overwhelmed with foundation. Somethin, that I really don’t enjoy. I also found that it creased and settled into my smile lines pretty quickly after applying.

Color.

The other issue was that it was a bit too dark for me. Now, this could have been an error on my part, but for the case of ease… I know exactly what shades I need of the NARS Sheer Glow and they match me perfectly. The Lock-It Foundation actually comes in 30 shades, so I’m sure there’s one that matches my skin better than the one I picked.

Lasting Power.

I found that this foundation did stay on for a good period of the day. But, I often rest my hands against my cheek or chin and I sometimes did find the foundation rubbing off.

Another thing I noticed was that when I would go to the gym in a hurry and didn’t take off my makeup, my foundation would literally melt off my face with my sweat. Something I had never experienced with the NARS Sheer Glow. Again, I know it’s really bad to workout in a full face of makeup, but sometimes you’re just in too big of a rush!

Overall Thoughts.

I feel like this could be a great foundation for many other people. But it’s just not the one for me. I highly suggest you try it out for yourself. If you don’t like it, Sephora has an amazing return policy!
