Long-Distance Runner

Long-distance running was never something I imagined I would be doing. After successfully training for and completing three 5ks and two 10ks this past year, I knew I was ready for my next big running goal. I’m currently training for my first half-marathon. Similarly to running, I prefer to set ambitious professional goals that deliver results.

Strategic Planning and Flexibility

For most people, a half-marathon isn’t something that you can decide to do one day and execute the next. It requires time, hard work, and planning. Similarly to large business goals, I craft a training plan that gradually builds over time – breaking down my large goal into manageable milestones. And just as business shifts, life frequently shifts too – causing me to be flexible, problem-solve, and adapt my training plan.

Mental Determination and Resiliency

Long-distance runs are a key part of my training plan. They require me to concentrate for extended periods of time and face challenges head-on – such as bad weather, fatigue, or other setbacks. This resiliency allows me to handle high-pressure situations at work with ease.

Performance Analysis

As a self-proclaimed data nerd, I love to track my progress and improve my results. Throughout my training block, I monitor pace, distance, and heart rate. My analytical mind thrives knowing that I’m steadily advancing over time.

Time Management and Discipline

I prioritize each day ruthlessly to ensure I’m balancing my training with my personal and professional responsibilities. My commitment allows me to maintain this balanced routine over an extended period of time – showcasing my reliability and perseverance in pursuing long-term objectives.

The longer I run, the more I realize how transferable these skills and experiences are to my professional portfolio. Managing a complex marketing project timeline to ensure all deliverables are met on schedule is very similar to developing and adhering to a training schedule for my half-marathon.
